Just a little about me

I graduated Habersham Central High School (Mt. Airy, Ga) in 1977.

Husband of Hollie; father of Hope, Christan, and Rusty; grandfather of Justice, Hannah, Bekah, Joshua, Collin, Caleb, and Nicholas; son of General and Betty; I golf therefore I am.

I was born at an early age and began to grow from there.  I learned that my father worked outside the home and my mother worked inside the home.  My father was a career Marine serving in South Korea and two tours in Vietnam.  While my father earned the money for the family, my mother budgeted it very wisely.  I remember eating a lot of beans and cornbread (which I still love by the way) but I never ever went to bed hungry.

I reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Paris Island, South Carolina just six days past my eighteenth birthday.  The barber I encountered asked me if I wanted to keep my sideburns.  When I thanked him for being so nice and said yes, he told me to hold my hands under my sideburns as he cut them off.  Things went downhill from there.

Fast forward a few years and I am privileged to meet the most incredible woman who happens to be a Christian and she invites me to church.  It was the First Church of the Nazarene in Albany, Georgia.  The last time I had been in church was during boot camp when I went to chapel to get away from the sadistic Drill Instructors.

After five years of marriage and two moves (Albany, Georgia to Greenville, South Carolina and then to Olathe, Kansas) later, we are living less than a mile from one of the largest Nazarene Churches in America and begin attending.  My plan was for me to attend long enough to allow her to develop friendships and then I could drop out and regain my peaceful Sunday mornings again.

God had other plans.  Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

I was born again at the age of 29 and began to grow from there.  After accepting Jesus as both Savior and Lord, we left for Nazarene Bible College because we felt a call to ministry.  God blessed us as we attended classes in Colorado Springs, and allowed us to minister both with and to our fellow students.  Those three years at Nazarene Bible College was a very good time for my family and I.  We grew in the Lord by leaps and bounds.

After five years of pastoring, some of the advice I had received earlier began to sink in.  Someone had told me if God would allow me to be anything besides a pastor to do it.  After much contemplative prayer, it became clear to me that even though I was a good pastor, God had other plans.  I was to minister to his church in a lay capacity.

While my vocation continues to be blooming where God plants me, I returned to the computer profession, which began in my second enlistment in the Marine Corps.  I am currently a database administrator and work from my home office in northeast Georgia where I am available to assist my aging parents as required.
